So we have a few standard responses at In Casa Gifts. One of these is in response to "How far in advance should I order my wedding favors." Good question, and given this "wedding thing" is something most of us do once (of course we would never turn away repeat customers:), it's a great question.

The answer is, "Order your party favors as soon as you've decided on them". Even a year in advance, you ask? Absolutely, or especially... Ordering your favors well in advance provides you with many benefits, including:

You get ample time to open them up and count/inspect them.
Time to get them to the wedding reception hall early if you'd like for set up.
Ensure availability. Although fairly uncommon, our wedding favours can go temporarily out of stock, or become discontinued altogether.

So, get your wedding favors early and check it off your wedding day "to-do" list so you're one step closer to saying "I Do"!

What if I'm a Last Minute Bride?

This one goes out to all those brides to be and wedding planners asking, "When should I order my wedding favours online - how long will it take me to get my wedding favours?" Great question!

Well, it depends...but it doesn't take too long to get your wedding favours delivered, generally 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on your location in the U.S. or Canada. When submitting your question, please let us know if your city and state/province - it'll help us estimate delivery time. Oh, and remember that with our extensive selection of personalized wedding favors, it takes slightly more time.

On an unrelated note, don't be shy...we know you'd like to get cheap wedding favours. Well, although we do provide excellent value, don't you dare mention to anyone your wedding favors were inexpensive! (Our little secret, K?...no one has to know you got a deal on your favors!).

Which Guests Get Wedding Favours?

OK - time to answer one of the most common question received here at In Casa Gifts from brides and yes, even some wedding planners! Can you guess? Well...

"How many wedding favours should I order?" And by this brides mean, "Do I give out one keepsake favor per couple, per person, per family?" A great question and sorry, there's no "right" answer...but there is a typical answer.

Usually, the number of wedding favours you'll need corresponds with the number of invitations you give out. So, say you invite 100 invitations for "YourFriend & Guest" plus 50 invitations for "YourFriend & Family" and 30 invitations to "YourFriendOnly (no guest)", then you're looking at 180 wedding invitations, and 180 wedding favours or "bomboniere". This is "rule of thumb" particularly if the wedding favors are being given out at a wedding reception table.

What's becoming increasingly popular, though, is placing the keepsake wedding favours at the tables - one per person. So, assuming with the above numbers that a "family" is 3 people, then you'd actually need 380 keepsake favors. Sounds like a lot but there are plenty of great ideas that are affordable.

An example of "one per guest" at the wedding reception table is a gorgeous mini-lantern favor, which can be lit during the reception. It makes a great wedding reception table top decoration and sets a remarkable wedding atmosphere.

Some brides also like one favour per guest when it's something that would better complete a set if two people are attending - for example, a set of two glass coaster favors. A couple would then have four practical items they can use as a set.

So, it all comes down to preference. And brides, remember - it's your wedding and you're the boss :) !

So, a few brides have asked now, "When should I order my spring wedding favours ". Well, now of course.

What I've noticed is that many brides order their favors a year or more in advance, which is a great idea. Not only are they sure to get their favors early and relieve themselves of one big thing on their wedding checklist, but they can also avoid any out of stock disappointments (particularly with our most popular wedding favors).

Then there's those of you [you know who you are brides :) ] that ask about getting your favors one week from yesterday! Now, that could be a problem particularly if you're after personalized wedding favors. In some cases, we can get them to you that fast, but why chance it?

As of writing, brides are ordering now for winter but usually for spring - so the timing is now for your spring wedding.

Winter weddings can be so gorgeous...but come to think of it, I've not really attended many. I guess the thing with me is that I love the warm weather, and if I could, I'd definitely go for a beach themed wedding down south! Ahhh...the warm waters of the Caribbean...

Brides and wedding planners are telling me all the time - we're busy! So, when they ask if our wedding favors are already packaged and I say yes, it's kinda like telling them they've just won the lottery. On the Rise, No Rush & Happiest in Heat!

Wedding Love is in the Air…
According to Statistics Canada, marriage is on the rise in Canada, well, in most provinces. About 5 people out of 1000 will get married this year…so assuming you know that many people, you’ve got some wedding ceremonies and receptions to get ready for.

Most recent data (2003) showed Ontario led the way with almost 63500 weddings taking place, a full 3% increase over the previous year. Weddings in British Columbia also increased by 3.7% to almost 22,000; overtaking Quebec, which actually dropped nearly 4% over the same period, to about 21,100 weddings.

…some places more than others!
Well, romance was in the fresh Yukon air, with marriages increasing 10.5%. Hmmm…could this turn into a favorite wedding location for popping the question? In Prince Edward Island marriages dipped by 8.7% year over year – but couples in PEI would argue there’s no cold spell there, and it’s in fact a favorite wedding and honeymoon destination.

What are you waiting for?
There’s a continuing trend towards “waiting”, seemingly due to an increase over the last few decades in co-habitation rates. Make him marry you already! In 1973 the average age for males was just over 25 and about 23 for women. That has jumped considerably, with the average for males now over 30 and over 28 for females…and in Quebec closer to 32 for males and over 30 for women!

When are Canadians Getting Married?
Over 20% of weddings take place in August with July coming second (14.6%) and June and September in a matrimonial dead heat (11.6%, 11.7%).

Confetti - A tradition uncovered!

I've been asked lately by several brides-to-be why Italian favors traditionally include Confetti, otherwise known as Jordan Almonds. There are several meanings to these sugar coated almonds and of course, if you are interested in following the tradition, there are a few key important details you'll need to consider.

Now, why do I know the tradition...These candies are small, but they are not exactly forgiving when they are being thrown at you as was done by my mother on my wedding day. Apparently, they are a sign of good luck and fertility...(not to mention humour for the camera man filming the assault).

On a more serious note, confetti themselves are somewhat bittersweet, representing one's journey in life and marriage. These candies represent the hope that there will be more 'sweetness' than 'bitterness' in the marriage. And yes, they are often tossed at the bride with the hopes that she will bear children (plural!).

Confetti in Italy are packaged in beautiful ornate favor boxes or wrapped in delicate tulle and handed to guests. Confetti is still a staple for Italian weddings and is often used to dress up a favor (bomboniere). But there is an unwritten rule to how many confetti you should package with your favour. An odd number of confetti, represents a number that is indivisible, as should be your marriage. 5 confetti is most popular since it traditionally represents health, happiness, fertility, wealth, and longevity.

And so there you have it. There's always more to a favor than you think!

Mexican Inspiration!

Wow, back from two weeks in wonderful Mexico and what a lovely experience it was! The people were so lovely and I learned a great deal about Mexican traditions, lifestyle and of course Mexican weddings! In case your interested...the growing trend for weddings in Mexico is to provide all guests with a beautiful boxed butterfly. When the bride and groom emerge from their church ceremony, all the guests release their butterflies at the same time adding a unique and memorable touch to the wedding day. Long gone are the days of messy confetti!

I was also able to see several Americans and Canadians tie the knot at the resort I was staying at! It was obvious that several bride and grooms were on the resort because they were sporting several items on our site! There were brides wearing "Just Married" sandals and "Bride" t-shirts and "Bride" and "Groom" beach hats. It was great to see!

What a day at the Hamilton-Halton Wedding Show (Day 1 of 2 - see you tomorrow in case you missed it today!)

Great seeing all you new brides to be (and grooms, and bridesmaids, and moms of the bride...)!
